Las Vegas Raiders coach Josh McDaniels almost joined the Indianapolis Colts when seeking a head coaching position as a then-longtime offensive coordinator under Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots in 2022.

We now know that move never came to fruition, and according to one media report, that’s directly a result of how McDaniels‘ wife, Laura, viewed the “odd” behavior of Colts owner Jim Irsay while the couple visited his home in Massachusetts as part of the job interview.

“My sources inside the Colts [are] GREAT,” Indianapolis radio host Dan Dakich said. “McDaniels’ wife made him pull the plug after having Irsay in their home in Massachusetts and observing his odd behavior. Behavior that included being in the McDaniels’ family bathroom for a very long and awkward period of time.”

This is just one report from one local radio host, but nobody that’s married would be shocked to hear about a spouse as the reason for a potential hire to refuse the job.

The Colts, who have their own head coaching issues with Jeff Saturday, may have dodged a bullet in hiring McDaniels, who went 6-11 in his first year as Raiders head coach, good for a second-to-last finish in the AFC West.
