Earlier this month, star wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster made the decision to sign with the New England Patriots as a free agent, helping bolster the team’s offense. And while he undoubtedly sees a role for himself in the offense, he revealed the simple reason why he chose to go to New England: Bill Belichick.

During an interview on 98.5 The Sports Hub this week after joining the team, JuJu Smith-Schuster specifically mentioned Bill Belichick as the reason why he signed with the team, revealing that he has “a lot of respect” for the coach after playing against him throughout his NFL career.

“To be honest, it was Belichick, man,” Smith-Schuster said on the radio show according to NBC Sports Boston. “Just the want and the need and the position that I can fill there really caught my attention, and I felt that like that was the thing: feeling wanted in a place where I played against a head coach who have a lot of respect for. And I just think that goes a long way.”

We’ll have to see what exactly Smith-Schuster can bring to the Patriots’ offense this season, but it’s clear that he’s excited to join the squad.
