Julian Edelman was arrested on vandalism charges in Beverly Hills in 2020 after the former New England Patriots receiver allegedly jumped on the hood of a car. As you might imagine, Edelman was under the influence of alcohol during the arrest.
During a Thursday episode of Edelman‘s “Games with Names” podcast, the receiver said former NBA All-Star Paul Pierce “had [his] back” after he claimed he attempted to slide across the hood of a car. “Paul was right there,” he said.
Edelman claimed his trouble started leaving an “eco-chic” Mexican restaurant in Beverly Hills after drinking tequila with Pierce and former Patriots teammate Danny Amendola.
“That was the weakest hood slide ever,” said Pierce on the podcast. “You didn’t even make it off. You like stood and stopped in the middle. I was like, ‘Nah.'”
Edelman explained that his pants hindered his ability to slide across the hood.
“It was my jeans,” he said. “There was no slide, there was too much friction… Me, wearing straight jeans, go over there and I kind of stuck. Homeboy gets out of a car, waves down a cop, [and] they start hemming me up.
“Paul is over there. Paul had my back though. He’s like, ‘Nah get off. He didn’t do s***.”
Edelman called what happened a “citizen’s arrest.” He returned to drinking tequila with Pierce and Amendola after being issued the court summons.
