Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

Entering the 2021 NFL Draft, many draft analysts predicted that the San Francisco 49ers would select Ohio State star quarterback Justin Fields with the No. 3 overall pick. Instead, the Niners selected current starting quarterback Trey Lance and Fields dropped to the Chicago Bears. Over a year later, Bears receiver Darnell Mooney doesn’t think his quarterback has forgotten.

The Bears host San Francisco to open the 2022-23 NFL season, giving Fields a chance to make them pay for passing on him in last year’s draft. And during a press conference on Tuesday, Mooney said he thinks Fields will do just that.

“I know he’s dog. He does things after practice, during practice, and in the offseason – there’s things that he’s shown. I’ve seen exactly what he can do,” Mooney said in a video shared by John Lund. “He’s gonna shine for sure. He’s gonna blossom. He’s going to prove everything that everyone doubted him on. Especially week one – that team passed on him. So, they’re gonna have to pay a little bit for that.”

While Mooney admitted that he hasn’t specifically talked to Fields about it, he says he has a pretty good idea of how he’s thinking.

“I haven’t talked to him about it, but he knows for sure,” Mooney said. “I’m pretty sure he has that thought in his mindset.”

It looks like this matchup just got a little more intriguing.
