Former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick throws passes at halftime of the Michigan spring game April 2, 2022 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor. Mich Spring

Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been one of the biggest topics of this NFL offseason after he announced back in March that he is eyeing a return to the league in 2022.

The former 49ers QB has been in the spotlight after numerous high-profile workouts, including with Seattle Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett and throwing during halftime of Michigan’s spring game.

It’s clear that the 34-year-old has been working hard to convince teams to take a chance on him heading into training camp, and one NFL quarterback that has worked out with Kaepernick seems to think that he has something left in the tank.

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields shares the same private quarterback coach as Kaepernick and he had good things to say about him following their joint workout.

“That was actually my first time meeting him,” Fields said. “It was cool meeting him, of course. He’s an icon. It was awesome just to meet him and work with him. He looked pretty good. He looked good, yeah.”

Kaepernick has not taken a snap in the NFL since the 2016-17 NFL season.

While it remains to be seen whether or not he will be signed by a team this offseason, quotes like this from young players like Fields help the argument that he could be valuable for an NFL team, whether that be in a mentor role as a backup quarterback or as a short term solution as a starter.

Kaepernick has been saying and doing all the right things as of late if he really wants to come back to the NFL. Given his age as a 34-year-old quarterback who hasn’t played in the NFL in four seasons, this may be his last real chance for a return.
