Justin Fields did not have a strong performance this week for the Chicago Bears, finishing the game just 16 of 29 through the air for 211 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions. He also rushed just four times for three yards. And Fields was not happy with how he played.
During his press conference this week, Justin Fields opened up about his disappointing showing last week, describing his performance as “robotic.” Fields also made it very clear that he wants to play a lot more loose and “free” when he takes the field this week.
“My goal this week is to say, ‘F it — just play football,’” Fields said according to Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times. “That’s when I play my best, when I’m out there being free. I’m going to go out there and be me.”
Fields is at his best when he is escaping the pocket and utilizing his legs, and he did not do that during the 27-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this weekend.
We’ll have to see if Fields can indeed play a lot more loose and free when the team takes on the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday afternoon.
