Throughout the NFL, many teams are rolling out special alternate uniforms, whether they’re throwbacks from an old era or a completely new design to just change things up a little bit. But one team has made it clear that they are not interested: the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
During a recent interview, Kansas City Chiefs team owner Clark Hunt made it clear that he has no plans to introduce alternate uniforms because his father, franchise founder Lamar Hunt, liked the uniforms the way they were when he introduced them over 60 years ago.
“It was something that my dad felt very strongly about, going all the way back to the early ‘60s. He wanted a lot of continuity in the uniform and we’ve tried to maintain that over the years. I think we have a very distinct brand with the red and white, and I don’t anticipate steering away from that any time soon,” Hunt said according to Pro Football Talk.
Alternate uniforms are a quick and easy revenue generator for a team and generate a lot of buzz and fan excitement, but it sounds like the Chiefs don’t think they need that right now – and that seems fair.
