The Kansas City Chiefs had quite a wild Wednesday as they traded star wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins for five draft picks. While that might send a lot of NFL fans into a tizzy wondering what it means for their chances in the highly competitive AFC West, the team also signed a veteran offensive lineman who knows what it takes to win a Super Bowl.

The Chiefs signed center Austin Reiter on Wednesday, bringing back the veteran lineman who spent last season with the New Orleans Saints and Dolphins.

Reiter was a member of the Chiefs between 2018 and 2020, which includes their Super Bowl LIV victory. He started every game that season, including the playoffs.

Prior to that, Reiter spent two seasons with the Washington Commanders and two seasons with the Cleveland Browns.

The 30-year-old Reiter is expected to provide depth behind Creed Humphrey, a 2021 second-round pick. The team lost their previous starting center Austin Blythe when he signed with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Reiter signing probably isn’t going to move the meter quite like the Hill news, but it’s a solid attempt to provide depth at a critical spot so that quarterback Patrick Mahomes can continue doing what he does best and the Chiefs can attempt to get back to the Super Bowl for the third time in four seasons.
