The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to get back to the Super Bowl after falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX to cap last season. Star tight end Travis Kelce even elected to return this season to make another title run, after many fans and pundits expected him to retire after what was a down season by his lofty standards.
Fans have become accustomed to watching the connection between Kelce and star quarterback Patrick Mahomes lead the Chiefs to success, and they’ve both had an enormous impact on one another’s careers, which has made both into surefire future Hall of Famers.
However, health is never guaranteed in the NFL, and Kelce has had to catch his passing from other quarterbacks from time to time over the years. It seems, however, that one Chiefs quarterback isn’t likely to ever throw to Kelce again.
“The #Chiefs are waiving QB Bailey Zappe, per source,” reported NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
If Zappe clears waivers, as he is widely expected to, he is free to sign with whichever team he pleases, and the Chiefs will likely lose his services for the rest of the season. Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“This is why pre-season playing time matters. Before pre-season, the Chief’s likely would’ve kept Zappe and dropped Oladokun. But Oladokun outplayed Zappe in the preseason and earned the 3rd QB spot,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Anticipated obviously. Chiefs will likely waive Chris Oladokun as well, just depends on who returns on practice squad,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see where Zappe lands.
