Earlier this month, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett suffered his second concussion of the season during a game against the Baltimore Ravens and the injury ultimately left him sidelined against the Carolina Panthers last week, as well. And as it turns out, he was the one who reported his own concussion.
As he prepares for his return to the field against the Las Vegas Raiders this week, Kenny Pickett revealed to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he self-reported his concussion symptoms, leading to him being taken out of the game.
“I thought I was good to go,” Pickett told the Post-Gazette on Thursday in his first interview since the concussion. “I felt good. I got back out there and started running, the vision started coming into play more and I started moving. Things are going fast. That’s when symptoms started coming up and I had to go inside. They ruled me out. We knew what it was after I started getting back into play. It was definitely the right call to get me into protocol.”
With the important conversation about concussions this season, particularly about the high-profile head injury sustained by Tua Tagovailoa, it’s certainly a good sign to see a prominent quarterback self-reporting his own traumatic head injury.
