Deshaun Watson’s future as a member of the Cleveland Browns is in serious doubt. Not only did Watson suffer a major setback in his recovery from the Achilles injury that ended his season early last year, but Browns owner Jimmy Haslam publicly apologized for trading for Watson earlier this offseason.
With the circumstances being what they are, the Browns have acquired two quarterbacks with starting experience. Cleveland traded with the Philadelphia Eagles for Kenny Pickett and signed Joe Flacco in free agency.
Now, one of the quarterbacks is making it clear to the other what his expectations are entering the season.
“That’s the plan, man. I’m not going there to hang out,” Pickett said, according to Pro Football Talk. “I want to go play. I’m excited, been working hard for it, taking it a day at a time.”
Fans reacted to Pickett’s statement on social media.
“If he didn’t think he could beat out Russell Wilson in Pittsburgh, he sure isn’t beating out Flacco or whoever they draft,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Why do people think he plans on being a backup when he’s young and has a 15-10 record as a starter?” one person wanted to know.
“Have to respect the attitude he has going into OTAs and training camp,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Flacco responds in the media or decides to let his performance do the talking.
