Even before a report surfaced that the New York Jets were optimistic about their chances of landing Aaron Rodgers, an ESPN analyst made a bold claim regarding the rest of the AFC East. Well, in this case, Keyshawn Johnson isn’t an ordinary analyst. And while he may be more known for his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Jets selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1996 NFL Draft.

Johnson believes that the potential acquisition of Rodgers would make the Jets the favorite to win a division that includes Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.

Yes, you read that correctly.

“Now let’s talk about [wide receiver] Garrett Wilson and this offense if they got Aaron Rodgers,” Johnson said Wednesday. “They will become my favorite team in the AFC East. Because when I look at the AFC East, you talk about the Buffalo Bills, Leslie Frazier’s not their defensive coordinator anymore. What’s gonna happen up there? Can they re-tool the defense? Can they get another wide receiver?

“Now, when you look at the Maimi Dolphins with the health of Tua [Tagoviola]. What’s going on in Miami? The New England Patriots is always a team you have to watch out for. [Offensive coordinator] Bill O’Brien comes from Alabama to run the offense and try to get Mac Jones to become what they thought he would be when they drafted him…I know for sure that Aaron Rodgers can play quarterback. Aaron Rodgers would probably be the best quarterback in the division, surpassing Josh Allen. if he were to go to the Jets, the Jets go to the playoffs, they win the division.”

We’ll have to see if Johnson’s prediction ultimately comes to pass, but the AFC East will be on notice if the Jets can acquire Rodgers.
