The NFL’s Christmas Day slate will conclude with what may be one of the best games of the season, as the 11-3 Baltimore Ravens head west to face the 11-3 San Francisco 49ers.
Niners quarterback has been the subject of plenty of MVP buzz of late, with many considering him the favorite heading into the final stretch of the season.
While Purdy’s stats this season, 268-for-384, 3,795 yards, NFL-high 29 passing touchdowns, have been quite good, there are still detractors who claim the former seventh-round draft pick is nothing more than a system quarterback.
Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton couldn’t disagree more. “I mean, the word around the league is he’s a system quarterback, and I just think that’s not true,” Hamilton said, via 49ers Web Zone. “Just from what I’ve seen, he’s making every throw that you can make as a quarterback, on time, on target, makes good decisions. He’s mobile, and he’s got a great cast around him at the same time. But yeah, he’s really good, and props to him.”
Purdy could potentially break multiple Niners single-season passing records this season. His 3,795 yards are just 483 shy of Jeff Garcia’s 4,278 in 2000. Purdy is also just seven touchdowns away from Steve Young’s 36 in 1998.
If he wins the NFL MVP, Purdy would be the fourth Niner to win the award, joining Young, Joe Montana, and John Brodie.
