San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan offered a new update on the status of quarterback Brock Purdy on Tuesday.

Shanahan fielded questions from reporters at a media session as OTAs began around the NFL this week. Naturally, everyone had Purdy and his health on their minds at the presser. The Niners coach delivered as good an answer as he could at the time.

“He’s doing good, still staying the same, on schedule,” Shanahan said. “I think he’s allowed to throw sometime next week,” he noted.

“Only God knows,” Shanahan said regarding how he progresses and if he’ll be ready for training camp. The 49ers are hoping he is ready for Week 1, the coach also revealed, so that’s a significant byte in itself.

Brock Purdy burst onto the scene last year after Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance both went down. Purdy led the Niners to the NFL Playoffs and an NFC West Division Championship after getting hot and going on a winning streak. The Niners eventually met their demise though in the NFC Championship Game as Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles defeated them. Purdy sustained a UCL injury during the game that forced him out and, all but essentially, delivered the Eagles the blow they needed to secure the
