The Arizona Cardinals have made it very clear over the past several weeks that they plan for Kyler Murray to be their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future and that the team will build around him. But one departing teammate thinks that he needs to “grow up a little bit” if he’s going to lead the franchise.

Offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum has spent the past three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals protecting Kyler Murray but is now a free agent. And as he presumably leaves the franchise, he has a pretty strong message for his former quarterback.

“It’s not a completed process,” Beachum said according to Arizona Sports. “I didn’t say he lacks leadership, I just think he needs to grow up a little bit. I think if he has the ability and willingness to grow up, he’s going to be just fine.

“They paid him for a reason, they paid him because of his talent. He has the ability to lead. When you’re in that position, we need you to lead more. You’re the face of the franchise . . . you have to lead in every single capacity.”

Murray will be entering his fifth season as a starter and the NFL world will be eager to see how he develops as a player and a leader.
