Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray had a rough season. After getting paid a huge contract, his stats were down, his team didn’t make the playoffs, he got injured, and his head coach was fired.

It’s not the way Murray wanted to end his season. So where does the blame lie? One of his teammates thinks the blame falls squarely on Murray and blasted the young quarterback to Bally Sports’ Michael Silver.

The anonymous teammate says the real issue with Murray started after he signed his new contract.

Silver said he recently spoke with a Cardinals veteran who said that the contract “created a monster” when the team awarded Murray that huge contract. The veteran also said he wasn’t surprised by Arizona’s bad season, because he felt Murray was less obligated to study and prepare for games once he got paid.

One of the issues according to many was that Murray seemed unprepared at times for games and didn’t study enough, which apparently was confirmed by this teammate.

In fact, it was put in his contract that he needed to study more film, but when that detail was leaked, the Cardinals came under harsh criticism and removed it.

Maybe they shouldn’t have, because it’s clear his new contract didn’t make Murray a better quarterback.
