On Monday morning, the Philadelphia Eagles made a massive move to secure their starting quarterback for the long-term future, signing quarterback Jalen Hurts to a new five-year deal that makes him the highest-paid player in the history of the NFL. And as many were digesting the news of the massive contract, many couldn’t help but compare the deal to the one Lamar Jackson was reportedly offered by the Baltimore Ravens.
As shown by Sarah Ellison, the former editor of the Baltimore Ravens official website, the deal that the Ravens were offering Jackson was in many ways better than the one that just made Hurts the highest-paid player in NFL history. It also includes more guaranteed money.

The NFL world had plenty to say about this comparison.
Soooooo the Ravens deal wasn’t all that bad ?

Great comparison, Sarah.
This makes it all the worse that…
1. Lamar does not have an agent
2. The NFLPA has used Lamar as their sword and shield looking for fully-guaranteed contracts#RavensFlock https://t.co/TA8i0x3PWb— Ken McKusick (@FilmstudyRavens) April 17, 2023
Yes. The Hurts deal is *further* from the Watson deal than what Lamar Jackson was offered. https://t.co/e13mjQ7871

Hire an agent – this isn’t hard. Mom doesn’t always know best https://t.co/U7JbNaFGS4

Hurts has been historically good, and historically good in the Super Bowl …Lamar has not been to a Super Bowl and is 1-3 in the postseason. Lamar needs better advice. https://t.co/wODAmvYfpN

Wow. Now that Hurts’ contract is out, I hope Lamar will reconsider. He was offered more fully gtd than Hurts and declined it back in the fall. https://t.co/khMgX5ZZ8s

Maybe upon seeing the contract Jalen Hurts just signed, Jackson will reconsider his contract negotiations with the Ravens and work out a longterm deal to stay with the team.
