Ever since it started to become clear that Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson could be leaving the team sooner or later, the Washington Commanders have been a rumored potential destination for the former MVP. But apparently Washington is not interested and never has been.

This week, Commanders General Manager Martin Mayhew made it very clear that his team will not be pursuing Jackson either by way of a trade or a potential offer sheet.

“I’m not sure where it all comes from,” Mayhew said Monday according to Pro Football Talk. “From the very beginning, we’ve been very consistent with our message, and it continues to come up. . . . It’s coming from somewhere. It’s not coming from us.”

While Mayhew made it clear that Jackson is a “very talented” player who could certainly help the team, the Commanders will not be pursuing him and will instead continue on with quarterbacks Sam Howell and Jacoby Brissett.

“There are a ton of talented players that could help us that we don’t end up talking to for various reasons, and Lamar falls into that category,” Mayhew said.

“I won’t get into specifics; I don’t want to sound critical of anyone,” Mayhew said. “[Jackson]’s a very talented guy.”
