Remember that episode of Seinfeld where George Costanza’s girlfriend had mono and thus cannot have sex? In that time he was being abstinent, George discovered he was getting smarter the longer he wasn’t having sex to the point where George decided to just go celibate.

Cam Newton is trying the same thing in hopes it will make him a better football player. Along with going vegan, Newton decided he was not going to have sex throughout the month of March, as he explained on last night’s Late Late Show with James Corden.

“Every month, I’ve really, this being the offseason I try to challenge myself in many different ways,” Newton said. “Okay January, I decided the whole year I’m not going to bet. So outside of his (David Boreanaz who joked that Cam caused him to lose in fantasy) fantasy league, you know that wasn’t the only thing I was losing at.”

“So no bets in January, then it carried over and February…vegan. So we got vegan in February and then March I’m giving, I hope this is an adult crowd it looks like it is, no climax.”

After coming off shoulder surgery, Newton said that he wanted to do something that was challenging and come back mentally stronger as a result. “It makes my mind stronger,” Newton said. “So when the season comes around, I say if I did those things, I’m mentally stronger.”

When George did it on Seinfeld, he was able to learn so many things and had the questions to all of Jeopardy’s answers. George even learned Portuguese which wound up being his downfall after having sex with a Portuguese waitress and went back to being the same George as before.

I’m not sure what Cam is planning to go without in April but if he’s already gone without meat and sex the last couple months, April should be a breeze.
