As much as NFL officials try, it’s nearly impossible to get every single call in a game 100 percent correct. And during Sunday afternoon’s game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Detroit Lions, it looks like the NFL admits the officials made a blatant mistake on a pretty crucial play.

During the play in question, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts spiked the ball into the ground to avoid a sack during a first-and-goal play in the second quarter. Hurts was in the pocket and there was no receiver in the area, so he should have been flagged for intentional ground.

According to Lions head coach Dan Campbell, the league admitted that it was a mistake, but Campbell was unable to review the call during the game.

“We turned it in. They said they were wrong. But no, you can’t review that,” Campbell said on Wednesday, according to Pro Football Talk.

Ultimately, the missed call proved to be fairly important as the Eagles scored a touchdown on that drive and went on to win the game by a score of 38-35. If the correct call had been made, perhaps the Lions would have been able to keep Philadelphia out of the end zone and the game’s result could have been different.
