The Detroit Lions are in the midst of one of the best streaks of successful seasons in franchise history. Head coach Dan Campbell’s ultra-aggressive style has paid dividends for the franchise, as it looks to bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Detroit for the first time in franchise history.
Last season the Lions secured the number one overall seed in the NFC, and other franchises around the league took notice. The Lions’ defensive coordinator for the 2024 season, Aaron Glenn, is now the head coach of the New York Jets, and their offensive coordinator from a season ago, Ben Johnson, is now the head coach of the Chicago Bears.
However, although the Lions entered Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders at 5-3, there has been a lot to be desired on offense under new offensive coordinator John Morton. Sunday’s win over the Commanders saw the Lions have thier most productive offensive day of the season, accumulating over 500 yards of total offense.
Shockingly, after the game, head coach Dan Campbell revealed after the game that he relieved Morton of play-calling duties and assumed the mantle, accounting for the explosion.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Sometimes you just need that immediate spark and clear direction from the top guy when things are getting hairy. If it helps snag a win, it’s a smart, albeit temporary, tactical adjustment to get the job done,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Dan Campbell grabbing the headset? Bold move, but that 25-point halftime explosion says it all. Lions offense just got its bite back. Watch out, NFC!” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Campbell can keep the offense looking dominant for the entire season.
