The Los Angeles Rams are looking to go on another Super Bowl run behind the connection of veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford and emerging superstar wide receiver Puka Nacua. Unfortunately, Nacua went down with an ankle injury in the Rams’ win over the Baltimore Ravens.
Although Nacua didn’t return to the game after going down, he was designated as questionable at the time, leading to some optimism that he’d be able to give it a go this weekend. Unfortunately, Stafford won’t have his top weapon available, according to one prominent league insider.
“Rams ruled out WR Puka Nacua, who has an ankle injury, for Sunday’s game in London versus the Jaguars,” reported ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter on Friday.
“He’s making good progress. I am very optimistic about hopefully having him ready after the bye. I think it’ll serve him well, and I have confidence in our other receivers to be able to step up,” head coach Sean McVay said about the receiver, per Schefter.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“The Rams can get the ground game going early and keep Stafford upright, they still have a shot — but losing Nacua definitely tilts things in Jacksonville’s favor,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Smart move sitting Nacua through the bye. No point risking re-aggravation when Adams and Atwell can handle Jacksonville. That ankle needs two weeks, not one rushed comeback in London,” another fan wrote.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Rams do without Nacua.
