After NFL legend Drew Brees shocked the sports media world by leaving NBC Sports after only one season, the future Hall of Fame quarterback has another venture he is pursuing that may shock you.

Brees, along with an ownership group that includes Los Angeles Lakers co-owner Jim Buss and internet personality/entrepreneur Gary Vee, bought a pickleball team named the Mad Drops.

Here’s some of what Brees had to say about the pickleball ownership in a statement:

“I’m stoked to be the newest team co-owner for Mad Drops Pickleball Club in Major League Pickleball! Our 12-team co-ed league represents an incredibly competitive & exciting brand of Pickleball.”

“I am an avid pickleball player, fan and student of the game. The opportunity to be a part of the ownership group of the Mad Drops PC is something I’m extremely excited about, and I look forward to helping raise awareness around the incredible players and competitions in MLP, helping grow the sport of pickleball and fostering overall fan engagement.”

Pickleball blends elements of various racket sports, such as a cross between tennis, table tennis, and badminton.

The former New Orleans Saints quarterback may have clued us in on his plans back in May when having some fun with fans on what the future holds for him after seemingly giving up on his broadcasting career.

Brees’ Mad Drops start their season in Newport Beach, CA on Aug. 5-7.
