Johnny Manziel

Johnny Manziel will need to find a new attorney.

According to Manziel’s spokeswoman, Denise C. Michaels, Manziel’s associate counsel Bob Hinton withdrew from representing the former Cleveland Browns quarterback on Monday morning.

The resignation isn’t surprising. Hinton accidentally made the boneheaded decision to text the Associated Press key details in Manziel’s domestic violence case, mistakenly thinking he was texting another attorney. According to the Associated Press, Hinton texted that Manziel had purchased more than a $1,000 worth of drug paraphernalia 15 hours after he was involved in a hit-and-run accident. Hinton questioned the legitimacy of the receipt for the purchase. He also wrote that Manziel may be seeking a plea deal – which was denied by Michaels.

The Manziel situation has taken so many twists and turns, it’s hard to keep track of them these days. Aside from Hinton leaving the case following the mini-scandal, Manziel’s own father told ESPN that his son was a druggie and needed help before his actions get him killed.

“He’s a druggie. It’s not a secret that he’s a druggie. I don’t know what to say other than my son is a druggie and he needs help. He just hasn’t seeked it yet. Hopefully he doesn’t die before he comes to his senses.”

It’s a sad situation that’s played out over many months.

Manziel’s domestic violence case will continue, but with different representation. Hopefully, the person chosen to defend him in the case doesn’t have the Associated Press in his contacts.
