Marquise Goodwin

The San Francisco 49ers recorded their first win of the 2017 NFL season Sunday with a 31-21 win over the New York Giants, and that was helped considerably by receiver Marquise Goodwin’s 83-yard touchdown catch. But it turns out Goodwin had much more on his mind than just football, and that helps explain why his touchdown celebration of sinking to his knees was so emotional. After the game, Goodwin posted on Instagram that he and his wife Morgan lost their baby son around 4 a.m. Sunday morning, thanks to pregnancy complications that led to the baby being born prematurely. Here’s video of Goodwin scoring the touchdown, then kneeling down and being surrounded by teammates:

And here’s Goodwin’s post afterwards:

That’s awful to hear. Here’s wishing the Goodwins all the best in the days ahead.
