It was one of the most perplexing moves in the early 21st Century, the hiring of Matt Millen as Detroit Lions President and CEO straight from out of TV/Radio where he was an analyst for the NFL on Fox and Westwood One Radio. Millen was in charge of the Lions between 2001 and 2008 and steered the team to one of the worst performances in NFL history. At 31-84, it led to extreme distaste of Millen in Michigan.

He really hasn’t had much to say about his time as a Lions exec. That is until now. During the Tampa Bay-Indianapolis game which he called for Fox with his old partner, Dick Stockton, Millen admitted his time with the Lions did not go well:

And he “apologized,” but it probably came across as a little too late and too light for Lions fans:

While Lions fans are still going a tough time with the team right now, Millen certainly set the team back for many years during his career as an exec. This might not help as much as Lions fans want, but it’s a start and maybe it can bring a little healing. Or not.
