For the past five years, Eric Bieniemy has served as the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs, helping guide the team and star quarterback Patrick Mahomes to two Super Bowl victories during that span. But it looks like the team will be needing a new offensive coordinator with Bieniemy likely joining the Washington Commanders, and a “top choice” has already emerged: Matt Nagy.

According to league insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy “quickly emerges” as the Chiefs’ top choice at the offensive coordinator position with Bieniemy heading to the Commanders.

“With the expected OC opening in Kansas City, Matt Nagy quickly emerges as the top choice to fill Eric Bieniemy’s shoes after the #Chiefs complete their process. He’s currently senior assistant and quarterbacks coach,” Rapoport said in a tweet.

This wouldn’t be the first time Nagy served as the team’s offensive coordinator. After initially joining the team as a quarterbacks coach in 2013, Nagy ultimately earned the role of offensive coordinator ahead of the 2016 season and led the Chiefs’ offense for two years before becoming the head coach of the Chicago Bears.

While Nagy would be a change for the Chiefs, it’s clear that head coach Andy Reid is the mastermind behind the team’s offense. So it’s unlikely things will be drastically different.
