Over the past several weeks, it’s become very clear that everyone expects Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers to be traded to the New York Jets. But if Rodgers had decided to return to the Packers or retire from the NFL altogether, it seems the Jets had quite a strong backup plan: Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.

According to a report from NFL insider Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Rams “would have welcomed” trade talks for Matthew Stafford, revealing that the Jets would have been interested in trading for Stafford had their pursuit of Aaron Rodgers not worked out.

“And, yes, the Rams would have (we’re told) welcomed the opportunity to trade Stafford. If Aaron Rodgers hadn’t decided to join the Jets, Stafford could have become the Plan B, if he would have been willing to go to New York,” Florio wrote for Pro Football Talk.

Obviously, this is wild news, and the NFL world had plenty to say about it on Twitter as a result.

Of course, the deal to bring Rodgers to New York has yet to be finalized. If they can’t agree to a deal with the Packers, maybe the team will need a plan B after all!
