The struggling Los Angeles Rams received some bad news this week. Head coach Sean McVay revealed Friday that quarterback Matthew Stafford may miss Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.

McVay did say that Stafford was “making good progress,” which leaves the door open for Stafford to start Sunday.

Stafford was put in concussion protocol after last Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. McVay said they entered the quarterback into protocol on Tuesday. He said the Rams “determined that they felt like that was the best thing for him.”

McVay also said that the team came to that decision after they asked Stafford a few questions that apparently weren’t satisfactory to the team.

“Hey, the appropriate thing for the person and the player in this instance is to put him in the protocol,” he said.

“Whether or not that means he has a concussion or not isn’t for me to truly understand,” he continued to say. “But there’s the necessary steps that we need to take.”

After what happened to Tua Tagavailoa earlier this season, there is reason to be cautious about how a team handles players who may have suffered a concussion.

Stafford and the Rams’ offense has struggled all season with him only throwing for only eight touchdowns and less than 2,000 yards passing.
