The Kansas City Chiefs will already be without one of their top receivers this year after the departure of Tyreek Hill this offseason, and it looks like star quarterback Patrick Mahomes could be without another one of his top targets as Chiefs receiver Mecole Hardman left the team’s practice with an injury.
Hardman left Wednesday’s practice after landing awkwardly while trying to catch a pass. Though Hardman was able to walk off the field under his own power after suffering the injury, the training staff ultimately took him off the field on a cart and back to the locker room for further evaluation.
The Chiefs revealed on Wednesday afternoon that Hardman suffered a groin injury. The severity of the injury is not yet known. Kansas City head coach Andy Reid told Alex Marvez of NFL radio that the receiver was undergoing an MRI to determine the extent of the injury but said he’s optimistic that the injury is not serious.
Upon hearing the news, the NFL world took to Twitter to react and offer their speculation about how long Hardman could be sidelined.
So it’s a groin injury for #ChiefsKingdom WR Mecole Hardman 🚩🚩
Very typical for these injuries to start small & linger if not rehabbed properly
High reinjury rates🤕
Recovery Timelines:
Grade 1 (mild damage)= 2-3 weeks
Grade 2 (moderate damage)= 6-8 weeks #FantasyFootball https://t.co/shHiAZq92G— Sebastian Fearon PT, DPT, CSCS, TSAC-F, OCS (@TheDegenDoc) August 17, 2022
Here’s the different options for groin injuries.
Abdominal strain (rare)
Adductor strain (most common)
Sports hernia (common, concerning)
Inguinal hernia (rare)Hopefully it’s mild & clarified.
Moderate to severe adductors can linger/derail seasons (Curtis Samuel 2021). https://t.co/og4M6dS2VV

Possible groin injury for Mecole Hardman.
The good news is he walked off under his own power. https://t.co/LH2kVJFDZc— Jeff Mueller, PT, DPT (@jmthrivept) August 17, 2022
To make matters worse for the Chiefs, wide receiver JuJu Smith-Shuster also didn’t practice with the team as he deals with a knee injury.
Kansas City will hope for a speedy recovery from both receivers.
