One year after acquiring him, the Miami Dolphins are reportedly open to trading one of their starting wide receivers.

According to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, the Dolphins are open to moving on from Cedrick Wilson, Jr.

“The Dolphins could trade Wilson this offseason to reduce his cap hit from $8 million to $2 million or $1 million, depending on the timing of the trade,” Jackson wrote over the weekend. “They’re open to that, but they’re also OK with having him on the team, according to an involved source.”

With the 27-year-old due to have a cap hit of $8 million, it’s a reasonable possibility to consider, especially with the number of resources the Dolphins currently have devoted to the wide receiver position. Last season, it was Trent Sherfield — not Wilson — who received a lot of the opportunities opposite of Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill.

Since Sherfield left in free agency to sign with the Buffalo Bills, Ourlads.com has Wilson as the projected starting slot wide receiver. Though, the Dolphins could ultimately give that responsibility to a relatively cheaper option in New York Jets WR Braxton Berrios, who signed with the team this offseason.

Whether the Dolphins choose to move on from Wilson remains to be seen. Last season, he played in 15 games (1 start) and hauled in just 12 receptions for 136 yards with zero touchdowns. That’s a year removed from a 2021 season full of career highs with the Dallas Cowboys, so at the very least, he could present himself as a valuable trade chip.
