Sony Michel’s time with the Miami Dolphins was short-lived as the two-time Super Bowl-winning running back was cut by the team.

Among the list of 13 people cut by the team was Michel, who signed back in May. Michel won the Super Bowl with the New England Patriots in his rookie year. While he was a major factor in the Patriots’ Super Bowl LIII victory, scoring the only touchdown of the game against the Los Angeles Rams, he was a non-factor in Super Bowl LVI when he won his second ring with the Rams.

Based on the Dolphins’ current running back situation, Michel’s departure was a possibility. Michel had a one year, $1.75 million contract that consisted of $850,000 guaranteed so it’s not financially detrimental for the Dolphins to cut him at this time.

Add the fact that the Dolphins signed former Arizona Cardinals running back Chase Edmonds and former San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert to short-term deals two months before they signed Michel, they were casting a wide net for running back talent that they were bound to have a surplus. So it appears that Edmonds and Mostert will join Myles Gaskin for carries.
