The Miami Dolphins made a move on Monday to sign a former No. 1 overall draft pick.
Miami signed offensive tackle Eric Fisher after they placed tackle Austin Jackson on injured reserve. Fisher, 31, last played football for the Indianapolis Colts a season ago.
Adam Schefter reported that Fisher signed with the Dolphins. Schefter tweeted, “Dolphins are signing former No. 1 overall pick Eric Fisher and, in a corresponding move, placing starting OT Austin Jackson on injured reserve.”

The San Francisco 49ers hit the Dolphins hard on Sunday. The Niners kept their great defensive efforts up with a relentless attack on the high-powered Dolphin offense. So that Miami signed Fisher, especially after Jackson’s move to IR, isn’t a surprise. Though their line has played well on the whole, as the team ranks 11th in the league in Sacked% allowed according to TeamRankings.
Fisher was selected first overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013. With Kansas City, Fisher went to two Pro Bowls and won Super Bowl LIV over the aforementioned 49ers. He missed Super Bowl LV, a game the Chiefs lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Fisher’s addition comes at a pivotal point for the Dolphins. Miami dropped to 8-4 after their loss to San Francisco, which puts them in second place in the AFC East behind rival Buffalo. The Dolphins play Buffalo in less than two weeks and they will need Fisher against a fierce Bill defense.
The NFL world reacted to Fisher’s signing on Monday.
Fisher has had some great years (Pro Bowl in 2020) and some down seasons (seven sacks allowed in 2021).
Wouldn't be surprised if he gets an early shot over Greg Little once he's up to speed (if Armstead remains sidelined). https://t.co/rx4DGChF67

Confirming the Dolphins are signing Eric Fisher and placing Austin Jackson on IR, per source. Tough for Jackson, with a second stint on IR after two games played this season. Miami goes with the veteran former top draft pick for tackle help.
