The Miami Dolphins used one of their four picks in the 2023 NFL Draft on a running back, selecting Texas A&M Aggies running back Devon Achane in the third round. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that the team won’t seek out a veteran running back to add to the roster.

Following the NFL Draft, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was asked if the team would consider adding a veteran tailback to the roster before the start of the season. And he certainly didn’t rule it out.

“Generally, nothing is off the table,” McDaniel said. “But we’re really happy with the offseason we’ve had, the players that we were able to keep on this roster, the new ones that we’ve added, that we added in the draft and that we’re going to in free agency. There will always be stuff that we’ll investigate because that’s our job. So yes.”

While it doesn’t sound like something the Dolphins will look to do imminently and there does not appear to be any particular back that has their attention at the moment, it is clear that the team could make the move if the opportunity presents itself. So it’s certainly something worth keeping an eye on.
