As the NFL season rolls into December, contending teams are taking steps to bolster their rosters before crunch time.

Monday, it was the Miami Dolphins’ turn to do that.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Dolphins would be signing former first-team All-Pro and two-time Super Bowl champion Jason Pierre-Paul from the New Orleans Saints practice squad.

Pierre-Paul made his Saints debut in Sunday’s 24-15 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, where he recorded two tackles.

Originally drafted by the New York Giants in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft, Pierre-Paul’s 94.5 career sacks places him eighth among active players. Pierre-Paul was a member of the Giants for their Super Bowl XLVI win over the New England Patriots.

After eight seasons and 57.5 sacks, the seventh-most in Giants history, New York traded Pierre-Paul to the Tampa Bay Buccanneers for a third-round pick in 2018. He spent the next four seasons with Tampa, making the Pro Bowl in 2020 and winning his second career Super Bowl when Tampa defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV. Pierre-Paul played a big role in Tampa getting to the Super Bowl, when he recorded two sacks on Aaron Rodgers in Tampa’s victory over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship.

Pierre-Paul spent the 2022 season with the Baltimore Ravens. It’s unclear when he will first see action for the Dolphins.
