The Dallas Cowboys and star pass rusher Micah Parsons are currently in the middle of a very public contract dispute. However, Parsons has decided to act professionally and report to training camp as a full participant rather than hold out. Which makes team owner Jerry Jones’ statement on the situation all the more puzzling.
“Cowboys owner Jerry Jones randomly takes a shot at Micah Parsons, saying even if they sign him, it doesn’t mean they’ll have him, because he was hurt for 6 games last year (fact check: he only missed 4),” NFL insider Ari Meirov reported. “He then also says they made Dak Prescott the richest player in football — and he missed two-thirds of the year.”
Even legendary NFL player J.J. Watt was in disbelief over Jones’ statement.
“Anytime you can publicly take a dig at your star quarterback and your star pass rusher simultaneously, right before the season begins, you just gotta take it… Nothing makes guys want to fight for you more than hearing how upset you are that they got hurt while fighting for you,” Watt wrote on Twitter.
Now, Parsons is voicing his frustrations with how things are unfolding.
“Some teams like Maxx [Crosby with the Raiders] knew [they] were coming up and they took care of them. Must be nice,” Parsons said, reported Nick Harris.
Fans reacted to Parsons’ words on social media.
“Love seeing players use the media to their advantage. It’s been the other way around for so long,” one fan wrote on Twtiter.
“Biggest problem with Parsons is the media and peers have overrated him to ungodly levels. Plenty better. And he wants top dollar no question. I wouldn’t pay,” someone else added.
“Just more drama. Cowboys are notorious for this type of garbage. More embarrassment for a proud organization that no longer cares about winning. It’s all about money and drama, drama and more mid-high drama. They all should be embarrassed. No one even notices anymore, it’s so customary,” one fan added.
Hopefully for Cowboys fans, things don’t cross the point of no return between Parsons and the franchise.
