Mike Evans Autograph

This weekend, Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans was part of an odd controversy when he appeared to be signing autographs for a pair of NFL referees in the tunnel after Sunday’s loss to the Carolina Panthers. But an NFL investigation revealed that Evans was not, in fact, signing autographs and was instead just getting help for his golf game.

It’s certainly a wild explanation for what happened in the tunnel after the game, but Evans corroborated that story this week.

In an interview shared by Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat writer Greg Auman, Mike Evans cleared the air, revealing that he was not signing an autograph for the officials.

“I wasn’t signing my autograph, I’ll tell you that,” Evans said in a video shared by Auman. “I talk to a lot of officials, we’re all human beings. He’s a nice guy. That’s all. We were just talking about, you know, golf. That’s all we were talking about.”

According to a report, referee Jeff Lamberth was simply getting Evans’ phone number so that he could pass it along to a golf pro who is set to give Evans lessons.

So, it looks like it was really just a lot of buzz about nothing.
