Cardinals head coach, wide receiver address Aaron Rodgers

The Arizona Cardinals are gearing up for the first season of the post-Kyler Murray era. Jacoby Brissett figures to be the starter this season, but the veteran and the organization are in the midst of a contractual standoff, with Brissett trying to increase his salary guarantees ahead of the season.

Arizona drafted former Miami Hurricanes standout Carson Beck and added veteran backup Gardner Minshew III this offseason, but as of late, another veteran has been increasingly linked to the franchise: Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers hasn’t made a decision on whether he’ll play or retire yet, and he was widely expected to return to the Pittsburgh Steelers if he did opt to return, but as of late, is name has increasingly come up in relation to the Cardinals.

CBS Sports’ John Breech noted that Rodgers landing in Arizona could make some sense, and Cardinals wide receiver Kendrick Bourne made it clear that he’d love to partner up with the four-time league MVP and former Super Bowl champion.

In an appearance on the Jim Rome Show, Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur was directly asked about the possibility of adding Rodgers.

“Right now we’re focused on the guys that we’ve got coming in,” LaFleur said. “You got the unit we have with Gardner [Minshew], Jacoby, and [Kedon] Slovis. And then we draft Carson Beck in the third round. He will be here on Thursday, finally. We’re trying to do some Zoom stuff. So we’ve got a room we’re excited to work with, and that’s solely where my focus is.”

Although he didn’t deny that there was any mutual interest between Rodgers and the Cardinals, it’s clear that LaFleur is more concerned about the arms already on Arizona’s roster.
