Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel apparently doesn’t have fond memories of his time in Washington back in the day.

McDaniel landed his first NFL job in Washington, working as an offensive assistant in 2011 and 2012 and then as wide receivers coach in 2013. While he earned valuable experience, working with future NFL head coaches Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, and Matt LaFleur, there were issues.

Commanders owner Dan Snyder is trying to sell the franchise and is reportedly asking $7 billion. Reporters at the NFL league meeting Monday asked McDaniel about that topic, and his reaction was priceless.

“Wow, the organization’s worth that much?” McDaniel said. “And, you know, I couldn’t get free coffee?”

Really, given all the other evidence that has come out about the “toxic” work environment surrounding the Commanders, the fact Snyder or his underlings made staff members pay for their coffee is nowhere near the most egregious offense. But it’s one more sign that the Commanders have been a dysfunctional organization for a long time.

The Washington Post reported Friday that NFL team owners have tabled any talks of removing Snyder as the Commanders owner, waiting instead to see how his efforts progress to sell the franchise. Three-quarters of the NFL team owners would have to vote Snyder out to force a sale.
