The Pittsburgh Steelers were whistled for a season-high 11 penalties during their 24-17 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday afternoon, but Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin isn’t necessarily rushing to blame the referees for that. Instead, he seems to be putting some of the blame on his team for failing to adjust.

During his press conference this week, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said that he thinks the team should do a better job of adjusting to the way that officials are calling the game on the field – and he didn’t think they did that on Sunday.

“Often times it’s our job to feel the tenor of a crew and adjust our behavior accordingly,” Tomlin said according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “We got into that game and the officials had a certain tenor, and we didn’t adjust to it.”

Tomlin does not think that Sunday’s penalties are a concern moving forward. Instead, he simply saw this as a learning experience for his team.

“So, am I worried about those issues moving forward? No, I am not,” Tomlin said. “But it’s a great opportunity to talk about learning the tenor of a crew.”

We’ll have to see if the Steelers can adjust to stricter referees going forward.
