The Pittsburgh Steelers have made it clear this offseason that they’re going for a Super Bowl this year. The Steelers traded away one of the franchise’s most beloved stars in Minkah Fitzpatrick after what was a down year, and also moved on from the talented George Pickens.
In return, Pittsburgh brought in a host of stars, including four-time MVP-winning quarterback Aaron Rodgers and cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Now, head coach Mike Tomlin is talking about how good his units can be this year, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
“We feel really good about the prospects of this group. We do,” Tomlin said, according to Pro Football Talk. “We’ve got to write that story. We’ve got enough talent, we’ve got enough schematics to do big, big things. When I say big things, I’m talking about historic things.”
Fans reacted to the bold statement on social media.
“I’d have to agree, what the Steelers are putting together is scary,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“I’d hope so. They’ve been the highest paid D for years now,” someone else added.
“He’s only the coach because of the ROONEY RULE, not because he was the best man for the job!” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Steelers’ defense lives up to Tomlin’s hype this season.
