As seems to have become the norm under head coach Mike Tomlin, the Pittsburgh Steelers started the season fast but are losing steam as the campaign continues to unfold. Last season, veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers was leading the offense. This year, it’s four-time MVP and surefire first-ballot Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.
In his prime, Rodgers was able to put the Green Bay Packers on his back and elevate some teams into title contention that would not have been competing at the highest levels in the league otherwise. Many fans and pundits worried heading into this season that such days were now behind Rodgers.
On Tuesday, in his weekly press conference following Rodgers’ worst performance of the season on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, Tomlin appeared to indicate that those fans and pundits were correct, and that Rodgers will need the players around him to step up from here on rather than do the heavy lifting himself.
“Mike Tomlin says the Chargers used schematics force the ball elsewhere away from DK Metcalf in the passing game and that those other players didn’t step up to make plays,” Nick Farabaugh reported.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“The other players didn’t exactly get many chances to make plays because the QB was awful,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Hmm almost as if we should traded for a receiver at the deadline who would’ve thought,” another fan added.
“No kidding… Which was why they needed to get a legit WR2 Tomlin and the FO aren’t victims here. This is the roster they chose to put together. They could have made a higher offer for a WR. They chose not to,” someone else wrote.
It’ll be interesting to see I Rodges can turn back the clock and lead Pittsburgh to a playoff win.
