The Pittsburgh Steelers still haven’t announced who their starting quarterback will be in Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season.
While most assume it’s either going to be Mitchell Trubisky or rookie Kenny Pickett, head coach Mike Tomlin hasn’t shown his cards over which one he’s favoring.
While both quarterbacks have made their cases for the starting spot, Tomlin reiterated on Tuesday that he is not ready to name the starter just yet.

However, Tomlin did throw out the possibility that the decision has been made, he’s just comfortable making it public just yet.
Tomlin on QBs: "Who's to say it's not settled?"

“Who’s to say it’s not settled?” asked Tomlin.
It certainly feels like Tomlin knows which quarterback is in line to start for Pittsburgh but he’s enjoying not letting the cat out of the bag. Perhaps he also sees it as some kind of competitive advantage as they head into their season-opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Not naming one is not the same as not having selected one…
Mike Tomlin having fun w/ this falls under the category of Not Surprising. 😂 #Steelers https://t.co/WcX2MVGcmO— Aditi Kinkhabwala (@AKinkhabwala) August 30, 2022
He will do so at his leisure. https://t.co/nnssCRdRi2

The Steelers are looking to replace Ben Roethlisberger, who retired last season. They drafted Pickett in the hope that he would become their new franchise quarterback. But in the meantime, Trubisky was brought in to be a placeholder. Then again, if Pickett can play well now, why not start him and get the reps now?
We’ll see what Tomlin decides, or, perhaps, we’ll find out what he’s already decided soon.
