The Tennessee Titans began the 2022 NFL season with a 7-3 record and appeared to be heading toward the NFC South division title. But the rest of the season was nothing short of a disaster for the Titans as the team lost its last seven games – including Saturday night’s division-deciding game against the Jacksonville Jaguars – and will now miss the playoffs.
It was certainly a disappointing end to the season, and after the game, Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel addressed the media to explain what exactly went wrong – and he got pretty brutally honest.
“We just got on a sh***y streak and we couldn’t get off it,” Mike Vrabel said after Saturday night’s loss, according to Pro Football Talk. “Couldn’t make plays when we needed to, couldn’t be consistent enough when we needed to.”
One key reason for the late-season collapse, according to Vrabel, was a surplus in the number of injuries the team dealt with down the stretch. This includes an injury to starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill, which left the team counting on quarterback Josh Dobbs down the stretch. As Vrabel points out, he wasn’t even on the team’s roster to start the season.
“We were out there battling with guys who didn’t even start the season with us,” Vrabel said.
It was a tough finish to the season for the Titans, and now they’ll have to wait a year to try to bounce back.
