The single-car crash that Cleveland Browns’ DE Myles Garrett (seen above in an August preseason game) got into Monday afternoon produced frightening photos and some injuries for Garrett. It has now also led to a charge for him:
Browns DE Myles Garrett was charged with failure to control his vehicle on Thursday, according to the Ohio State Patrol.

Here’s more on that from that piece, from Zac Jackson of The Athletic:
Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett was charged with failure to control his vehicle on Thursday, with unsafe speed for the type of roadway being traveled appearing to be a contributing circumstance, according to the Ohio State Patrol.
According to the crash report, Garrett was traveling 65 MPH in a 45 MPH zone, struck a fire hydrant and overturned the car several times.
According to the Ohio Criminal Code, failure to control a vehicle is a minor misdemeanor:
(A) No person shall operate a motor vehicle, trackless trolley, streetcar, agricultural tractor, or agricultural tractor that is towing, pulling, or otherwise drawing a unit of farm machinery on any street, highway, or property open to the public for vehicular traffic without being in reasonable control of the vehicle, trolley, streetcar, agricultural tractor, or unit of farm machinery.
(B) Whoever violates this section is guilty of operating a motor vehicle or agricultural tractor without being in control of it, a minor misdemeanor.
Minor misdemeanors in Ohio carry a maximum fine of $150. So this doesn’t seem likely to be too massive of a problem for Garrett. But it is still interesting to see him charged in the wake of this crash.
As per a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero earlier this week, the crash came when Garrett swerved to avoid an animal on a wet road and overcorrected. Garrett and his passenger were transported to hospital for evaluation afterwards, and were “not seriously injured” (as per a Browns’ statement). But this crash still had notable effects, and those now also include this misdemeanor charge.
