It’s safe to say that Myles Garrett’s debut with the Los Angeles Rams did not go according to plan, as he looked like a shell of his normal self on the field. As it turns out, it seems like there was probably a good reason for that.

After Thursday night’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Garrett is reportedly undergoing surgery on his knee and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.

Garrett Gets Surgery

Garrett, of course, joined the Los Angeles Rams this offseason by way of a high-profile trade with the Cleveland Browns. His addition to the roster is a big reason why the team has been amongst the preseason Super Bowl favorites.

Now, it looks like his season has been derailed a bit.

According to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Garrett is getting surgery and is headed to injured reserve after just one game with the  team as a result of an “ailing knee.”

“Rams star Myles Garrett will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his ailing knee and is headed to injured reserve, sources tell [The Ringer] and [Netflix Sports]. Garrett has been dealing with lower-leg pain and wasn’t himself in Thursday’s opener. The hope is he’s back in four weeks,” Pelissero wrote in a post on X.

Garrett did not record a single sack, tackle for loss, quarterback pressure or even a tackle in Thurdsay night’s loss to the Niners in Australia.

‘This is absurd’

Needless to say, this news quickly made waves throughout the NFL world, sparking a lot of reactions.

“Not saying this is *good* news, but it does partially explain why the Rams defense was so lackluster on Thursday & Garrett couldn’t get the pass rush going Hopefully this allows him to be firing on all cylinders down the stretch. Does open some doors in the NFC West tho,” wrote prominent NFL analyst Nico of Real App.

“Brother WHAT is the start of this season,” wrote prominent sports content creator Brandon Carney.

“This is absurd. Why couldn’t this happen during the offseason? How could you possibly manage this situation so poorly?” wrote the Rams Bros. podcast.

“Whoa! Giants won’t face Garrett next week. Unclear if Aaron Donald will make his debut,” wrote Dan Duggan of The Athletic.

“The Browns won this trade. The Browns won the Travis Hunter trade. This is why Andrew Berry is still the GM after losing seasons. While it may not look bright in Cleveland, Andrew Berry is one of the best GMs in the game,” wrote retired NFL defensive lineman Breiden Fehoko.

“Unbelievable man,” wrote prominent Rams commentator Holden Cantor.

We’ll have to see how Garrett is able to recover from this.
