The Denver Broncos have not lived up to expectations whatsoever this season, currently sitting at 2-5. There has been a ton of criticism towards Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett this season for these struggles, and now some shocking reports have emerged suggesting he may be coaching for his job on Sunday.
According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, there is “chatter in some league circles” that Hackett’s job is on the line in the Broncos’ Week 8 matchup in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
There are a few variables suggesting this may be true, one of which being that the Broncos’ new ownership group was not in place when Hackett was hired back in January. Considering their struggles, it is possible that this new ownership group may want to bring in their own head coach and have a fresh start without Hackett.
Graziano did add that he doesn’t fully believe that this is a “make-or-break” game for Hackett, but it certainly could be a sign of things to come in Denver.
The Jaguars currently stand as three-point favorites over Denver according to FanDuel Sportsbook. This is surely something that nobody thought would be the case when first looking at the Broncos’ schedule heading into the season.
Whether or not Hackett keeps his job after this game is still in question, but there are clearly still a number of issues outside of Hackett plaguing this team.
Quarterback Russell Wilson has been playing uncharacteristically poor this season, and he is now dealing with an injury that held him out of last week’s game against the New York Jets.
He will need to return to action and play much better if the Broncos want to turn their season around, and Nathaniel Hackett may ultimately be the one to take the fall if the team continues to struggle the rest of the year.
