The New England Patriots are hoping that the partnership between young quarterback Drake Maye and new head coach Mike Vrabel is as successful as the one between Tom Brady and Bill Belichick was.
The Patriots also have a standout young player on the other side of the ball in cornerback Christian Gonzalez. Unfortunately, Gonzalez appears to be dealing with a hamstring injury, according to one prominent insider.
“Sources: #Patriots All-Pro CB Christian Gonzalez suffered a hamstring injury during Monday’s practice that will sideline him for a bit, but I’m told it will not impact his Week 1 availability,” reported Jordan Schultz on Tuesday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Stick him in bubble wrap until September 7th,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Expect the #Patriots to take their time working him back. Soft tissue injuries tend to come in clusters, and they’ll want him fully healthy for Week 1. No reason to rush — his BUS is 74.2%, so recovery outlook is solid if they play it smart,” added someone else.
“The injury scares this summer has been insane man, can we please just have a closer to healthy season?” one Pats fan wrote.
Hopefully, Gonzalez doesn’t try to rush a return and waits until he’s fully healthy to see the field again.
