As the NFL world turns, one team will be without their star wide receiver indefinitely. And perhaps for the remainder of the 2022 season.

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas has played just three games this season. The star wideout has been hampered by injuries over the last year, having missed all of 2021. On Thursday, we learned that the oft-injured receiver is once again heading for the shelf. Saints head coach Dennis Allen addressed the media and informed them that Thomas is heading for IR.

“Saints’ HC Dennis Allen told reporters today that he does not expect WR Michael Thomas to play again this season,” wrote Adam Schefter in a tweet. The receiver is dealing with a toe injury that will require surgery. A bad break for sure for Thomas, who hasn’t played a full season since 2019, when he won the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award in a record-setting campaign.

Since then though, Thomas has struggled to see the field. He played just seven games in the COVID-hampered 2020 season. So he has played a total of 10 games over the last three seasons, a number not expected to swell now with surgery on the way.

It’s an extremely tough development for Thomas and the Saints. Reactions from the NFL world soon followed, seemingly all with the same theme:
