The New York Giants were in the market for a new quarterback, either via free agency or the draft, after making the decision to bring an end to the Daniel Jones era in New York in the middle of last season.
The Giants may still decide to take a young quarterback in the draft next month, but if they do, he’ll likely start the season behind the veteran the team just signed to a two-year deal.
“BREAKING: The #Giants and QB Jameis Winston are finalizing a 2-year, $8M deal, which could be up to $16M with incentives, multiple sources tell (NFL on FOX),” FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz posted on Twitter on Friday.
Fans reacted to the signing on social media.
“economies will be grown from the Jameis-Leek buddy ball we will witness,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“This is gonna be the most fun 6-10 season EVER,” one Giants fan added.
“While this certainly could mean Russ in Cleveland, you need to look at the Giants QB room, they only had Tommy DeVito under contract $4m Winston is a really nice backup option while things unfold,” one fan added.
“Malik Nabers is now your fantasy football 1.01. I will accept no other opinions at this time,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how long of a leash Winston gets as the starter or if he was brought in to serve as the backup.
